Game: Wonder Red's Freeze Dance Rhyming
Summary: The website PBS kids has a wide variety of games geared towards different subjects such as math, science, literacy, and social studies. It also uses characters from some of its shows in the games so that children are familiar with them, and will want to play these specific games. The website itself is very colorful and uses repetition when the child clicks on any label or category. The website is easy to access and clearly displays all of the material that it presents. PBS kids also uses themes on its website for the time of the year. For example right now it has a fall theme. This website seems to be very accessible to children at home and in schools.
Summary of the game: The game I found was Wonder Red's Freeze Dance Rhyming. The little girl who is the main character of the game explains the directions and then dances while children click on words that rhyme with the word that was given to them by the game. Every time the child clicks on a rhyme that appropriately rhymes with the given word, the little girl does a special dance. At the end when the child finds all the words that rhyme with the given word, the little girl sings a song about other words that rhyme with this word ending.
Evaluation: This game was very appropriate for grades K-3. The colors were bright but only about three colors were used. The little girl who is the character of the game explains the directions. The game helps children improve on rhyming words and reading. As they click on a word, the game repeats the word. This game also helps children distinguish between different rhyming families of words.

1.Color: This game had bright colors, but only used a color palette of purple, red, and white.
2.Repetition: the rhyming sound is repeated in the beginning of the game and every time a word is clicked on that rhymes with the word. The game repeats the words as they are clicked on. At the end of the game, the little girl sings a song repeating all the words and the rhyming sound.
3.Talking text: As the child clicks on a word, the game repeats this word and uses talking text.
4.Visual cues: The words float around the screen to be clicked on. When the right word is clicked on, it goes to the right side of the game where there is a table for five words that properly rhyme with the given ending or sound.
5.Mistakes: When a mistake was made, the character said the word that was clicked on incorrectly and stated what it was supposed to rhyme with and said that they did not rhyme. It told the children to try again. For example, " Tall does not rhyme with "airs". Try again!"
6.Rating: NA
7.Highlighted cues: In the beginning there is a demonstration of how children can click on the proper words and click on the help button. The words become highlighted when the child picks the correct word.
8.Navigation routine: Children can skip the introduction of the rules, but can not navigate passed a certain rhyming family. There is no next button, the game moves to the next stage on its own.
9.Click back and back: NA
10.Click and drag: NA

Level: Primary K-3
Game: Sand Castle Quiz
Summary: This website has many games for all different age levels. You can click on which age level you want the games to pertain to. It has games for art, citizenship. geography, math, literacy, history, and more. There are also games in different languages like French, Spanish, and Dutch. BBC also uses characters from its television shows in some of its educational games that encourage the child to play the game. The website makes it easy for children to find an educational game that is helpful and at their level.
Summary of Game: This game uses a talking clam that allows children to pick the type of vowels they want to fill into words. The clam tells the child to pick the letters on the sand castle that will properly finish spelling a certain word like "chart". The clam will give the children "ch_ _t" and ask them to fill in the missing letters.
Evaluation: This game helps children in grade 1-2 work on their spelling abilities. It also expresses how each vowel is used and helps them learn to properly read the words they spell. It also gives verbal directions and uses visual components to show what the child must do.

1. Color- The color in the game is very basic colors of blue. purple, and brown. However, the colors are bright. The background is a beach and has animated pictures of seagulls flying.
2. Repetition- when the word is properly spelled, it is repeated twice. It is also repeated twice when the word is first presented to the child to correctly fill in the blanks.
3. Talking text- when a word is clicked on, or is properly spelled, the game uses talking text.
4. Visual Cues- the verbs that are needed to be used are set up on little sand castles. As each word is spelled correctly the sand castles build a pyramid. When the pyramid is finished, a flag is put on top to congratulate the child for their success, If the answer is wrong, the sand castle is squashed.
5. Mistakes- If a mistake is made, the choice is taken away and can no longer be picked on. There are three choices, so if the child guesses wrong twice, they have only one choice left which is the correct answer.
6. Ratings- NA
7. Highlighted Cues- The game highlights the blanks in the word that is being spelled to show the child where and what letters should be placed there.
8. Navigation Routine- There is no next button, or anything to skip. The game progresses to the next question on its own. Children complete one level and then are asked if they want to play again.
9. Click Back and back- NA
10. Click and Drag- NA

Game: Ice Cream Talk
Summary: This site has an abundance of games for children to play to help them with numbers, literacy, shapes, longitude and latitude, and geography. One thing I really liked about this site is that it has options to click for a grade level starting with kindergarten and ending with fifth grade. The website has a simple layout and has all of the options easily displayed for children to access. It also offers educational Apps for and iPhone or iTouch.
Summary of Game: In this game, the child must properly distinguish the nouns in the sentences by clicking on them. Every noun they get right, the monkey gets a scoop of ice cream. Every noun they get wrong, the monster gets a scoop of ice cream. When the monkey receives ten scoops of ice cream, or the child gets 10 nouns right, the child gets to play a bonus game. One great aspect of this game is the children get to choose if they want to find nouns, verbs, or nouns and verbs in the sentences. It helps them gradually progress.
Evaluation: This game is very helpful in helping children understand what nouns are, how they are used, and where they are placed in sentences. It also makes students aware of the relationships between nouns, verbs, and proper nouns. The directions are presented in written format for the child to read. It also uses a bubble on the left upper corner of the game that says "Click the NOUNS!" if the child forgets what they are looking for, or becomes confused.

1. Color- uses basic colors of blue, green, brown, and reds.
2. Repetition- This game uses the repetition of sounds when the child gets a noun right it makes a charm sound and when it is wrong it makes a beep sound.
3. Talking text- NA
4. Visual Cues- When the child gets a noun right a green check appears, when the child gets it wrong a red x appears.
5. Mistakes- If the child makes a mistake there is a beep noise and a red x appears. Also a scoop of ice cream goes to the monster. It never gives the child the right answer, but if the child guesses wrong and only one word is left, then they know it is the noun.
6. Ratings- NA
7. Highlighted Cues- When a noun is right it lights up green and when it is wrong it lights up red. The next arrow is also highlighted in green.
8. Navigation Routine- After a student has found all the nouns in the sentence, a NEXT arrow pops up and must be clicked to get to the next sentence or the next level.
9. Click Back and back- NA
10. Click and Drag- NA
